Trip Summary – 9AM to 3PM to Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern
Built in 1926, the Cistern was one of Houston’s early underground reservoirs. For many years, it supported the municipal water system’s goals of fire suppression and drinking water storage. Although the
facility was decommissioned in 2007, the Buffalo Bayou Partnership reopened the Cistern five years ago after restoring and repurposing its unusual space to house an ambitious program of changing art installations.
As part of the tour, Trippers will view an immersive, otherworldly experience of film and sound in a show of newly commissioned artwork Time No Longer by multimedia artist Anri Sala.
Depending on the number of attendees, the admission price of the history and art tour will be approximately $15 to $30 – but hopefully between $15 and $20 – per person. The more people, the less it will cost each individual. Please note this trip is limited to 25 and advance reservations are required. Due to the financial commitment for the private tour, money will be collected prior to this trip and is nonrefundable. After the tour, there will be a stop for lunch at the recently opened Acme Oyster House in Montrose. Located in the former Tower Theater, this eatery serves a variety of Cajun and Creole favorites just like its original location in New Orleans. Every individual is responsible for payment of her own meal. If time permits, we will shop in the Heights before heading home. The bus will return to Deerfield Village between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE: To join the Deerfield Women’s DayTrippers and/or reserve your spot, please call Leslie Denney at 281-705-0237. Those who register will be notified if plans change.
